Dining Rooms: Designing for Your Emotional Well-Being

I read an interior design book last night. Since I can’t recommend it to you, I won’t reveal the name. What I saw was a group of photographs asking the reader to choose her favorite dining room. After studying the rooms carefully, I decided that not one room presented good design for eating and conversing!

Several of the rooms used wallpaper in bold patterns that compete with nonexistent diners. Most of these rooms offered uncomfortable seating, either too big for intimate conversation or too little for personal comfort. The “cozy” dining rooms were cluttered with too many accessories; the “formal” and “elegant” rooms were too stiff and cold. This is how I labeled the rooms:

1. Cluttered Country

2. Bleak Stiff Modern

3. Wallpaper Madness Traditional

4. Cold Contemporary

5. Stark Shaker

6. Bland Eclectic

7. Pretty for Parties with Misguided Colors

8. Governor’s Mansion for Once a Year

If you want to makeover your dining room for good conversations and dining pleasure, here are a few new interior design tips from Design Psychology strategies:

1. Focus on how you and your dining partners will look in the space. Don’t overdo the accessories.

2. Use colors to enhance the appearance of people and fabrics to soften the space.

3. Choose wallpaper with patterns smaller than your palm so the pattern doesn’t compete with faces.

4. Add flowers and soft — not spiky — houseplants to bring nature indoors.

5. Provide cushioned chairs for relaxed and extended conversations.

6. Establish a theme or style that reinforces your personal design statement.

7. Color your walls to complement food and enhance taste.

8. Relax formal dining rooms with rough textures and houseplants.

Make your guests and family feel honored with a dining room designed to support conversations and enjoy eating your shared dinners.

Many homeowners have very specific ideas as to how their homes should look and what style the interior should represent. Bathrooms are often important; also the choice of bathroom basins.

It may be safe to say that many ladies enjoy spending time in a nice bathroom to make sure they are prepared for the day, the party or bedtime. Many men, equally, can appreciate that a bathroom is a place where you do not only clean up but also spend some time to look and smell great.

That is why many people like a lovely bathroom with great basins, bath tubs, showers, mirrors and cabinets that reflect their own style and taste. They will go to trouble to ensure that the bathroom is perfect in every sense and that they have chosen the best among the possible bathroom basins for their home.

It has to be noted that hotels, restaurants and places of accommodation also have a choice, and especially upscale places will go to trouble to ensure that their bathroom facilities are clean and inviting - and have great basins.

When it comes to basins, there are some important factors to consider. It depends on whether you like something modern, ultra modern or more traditional when it comes to the interior of your home or business. Choices in terms of the basins available in the market make it easy, fortunately, for everyone to find what they are looking for.

Not only does one have some amazing choices in terms of the style for bathroom basins, but also as far as sizes are concerned. Some are small, others much bigger. Personal choice will often dictate whether you decide on a round basin, or one with a rectangular shape.

And when it comes to the accessories such as taps and mirrors, choices will also determine the final appearance of the basin. Of course practicality is very important too. Some people prefer a basin that's deeper than others, and therefore they will make sure that the basin or basins that they have installed are good enough for good water flow and ample water while washing their hands and faces.

Bathroom basins are offered by various shops, factories and sometimes directly from manufacturers. Because there are choices in terms of style, size and volume, the buyer never has to rush into decisions. There are enough opportunities to compare designers, manufacturers and retailers for the best quality products at the most reasonable, affordable price.

Of course there are some very good companies who advertise their products on their own websites too. Good information is available, with photographs and details such as price, dispatch details and information regarding guarantees and warranties so that online ordering is a great possibility that saves a lot of time, which is important to some clients.

Bathroom basins are offered not only in terms of their practical application, but also in terms of their quality. The buyer has the choice to have basins installed that are better than others, basins that will last for many years. When it comes to materials, there are also great choices.

Some are made of stone, others from ceramics or wood - and some from glass, for example. Depending on your style, there is something for every bathroom and owner. Some owners like to have a complete set where the basin complements, and is complemented by, the rest of the bathroom.

A modern home may choose very modern taps and mirrors, and maybe a glass bathroom basin, as opposed to something more traditional such as oak wood, for example. A lot of the choices for the bathroom boil down to preference.

When buyers, whether they buy for a specific bathroom in their home, or developers who fit out many properties, start looking for basins, they can do so in the knowledge that there are many good choices.
